Duration: 3 hours Level: All levels Group: Max 10 makers Price: $85

No wheel, no hurry, no two pieces alike. Hand-building is the oldest way to work clay — and the freest. If you love sculpting unique forms, this is your bench.

We move through the three core techniques in one generous afternoon: pinch pots that teach you wall thickness by feel, coils that grow into vases and creatures, and slabs that fold into boxes, trays and wall pieces. Instructors demo each method, then circle the room while you build.

What’s included

  • 3-hour guided session with all three hand-building methods
  • 8 lbs of grogged sculpture clay, slips and texture tools
  • Two finished, glazed pieces per maker, ready in 3–4 weeks
  • Underglaze painting session for surface decoration

Three techniques, one afternoon

01

Pinch

Form cups and organic pods with thumbs and patience.

02

Coil

Stack and smooth ropes of clay into vases and figures.

03

Slab

Roll, cut and join flat sheets into boxes and trays.

“The wheel intimidated me, but hand-building felt like drawing in 3D. My coil vase is the first thing guests ask about.” — Priya S., hand-building student
